Today's song = "Hot town. Summer in the city.
Back of my neck is sweaty and gritty."
Today's spat: 5:30 a.m. "Time for you to get up so I can sleep on the air mattress which does NOT leak."
Today's favorite signs:
1) Find Happiness at Friendly's (perhaps I should go there)
2) Big Dang Farms
3) Quaker Steak and Lube (wonder what sides come with that....)
4) Lover 5) Pittsburgh
1/2 mile California
1 mile
Today's grateful list:
I am grateful for:
a car with working A/C
elevators
iced tea
audiobooks
Daily food pick: peach iced tea (Cracker Barrel)
Well, we left our apartment at Hillhouse in Philly for the last time today. It was a great place to live with friendly staff and quiet residents. The neighborhood was just what we wanted for our urban experience. However, last night's rest was not so restful due to a poor choice in air mattresses and blankets. Tonight, we are at a Sleep Inn in Columbus, OH. We passed by miles and miles of beautiful, green, open farmland in western PA and eastern OH. The blue mountain views and the landscape seem to cheer us up a bit after trying not to say good-bye to family members.
The high heat followed us all the way here and we did get a few minutes of a thunderstorm in western PA. Today, we did not try to take in any site-seeing, choosing to make progress -- over 400 miles. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

400 miles? Sounds like you are well on your way to the western frontier. Hope your ac is up to specs considering the near record heat wave in parts of the Midwest. So how do you two decide who drives what leg and for how long?

We try to switch off every hour and a-half or whenever the "driver" decides to start napping. The navigator also enjoys breaking the daily distance into a percentage of the trip, the total being around 2800 miles. You can do the rest of the math, if so desired. LOVE your comments!
